JPST 101 Beginning Japanese Language II

Instructor: Alwyn Spies

Pre-requisites: JPST 100

Japanese 101 is a continuation of Japanese 100. By the end of the course, the student will be expected to be able to:

  • read an additional 100 kanji
  • write an additional 75 kanji
  • read short passages concerning everyday life, hobbies, weather
  • discuss their own typical daily schedule, talk about their hobbies, use humble and honorific forms for family members, discuss the weather
  • understand basic conversations held at near-native speed with repetition
  • show a greater understanding of Japanese culture and society


  • Genki I: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese, published by JapanTimes. Chapters 7 - 12.
