Research Interests & Projects

I am interested in literary theory, critical intellectual history, the epistolary genre and 19th and 20th Century literature (in France and the French Caribbean region). My research focuses particularly on the relationship between the formation of knowledge across disciplines (medicine, law, sciences) and its dissemination through various discursive practices (literature, architecture, visual arts).

  • French literature (Flaubert, Baudelaire, Zola, decadent novel)
  • French Caribbean literature (Edouard Glissant)
  • Epistolary genre (letters, postcards and Email novel)
  • Physical pain and representations of the human body
  • The city in the 19th century (touristic practices; department stores)
  • The concept of nostalgia (sensibilities and perceptions of time and space in the 19th century)
