Centre for Sustainability, Creativity and Design Concept

Where do we bring the community to imagine the future of this place we call home?

FCCS is working on a joint project to create a Centre for Sustainability, Creativity and Design (CSCD) within the Creative and Critical Studies Building on the UBC Okanagan Campus. The Centre is meant to be a showcase gateway to UBCO’s Innovation Precinct where creative, cultural, environmental, health and engineering research connect and converge with community and enterprise.

The CSCD envisions a layout in which a central space is surrounded by interactive lab and makerspaces linked to and linking the arts, design, IT and digital media, engineering, health and environmental research activities and institutes.

Building Enhancement

At the heart of the project is a multi-panel digital screen installation and encounter area that will serve as a welcome to the campus, and an ongoing applied learning and research canvas for artists and researchers across the campus. A new entrance, and additional floorspace, will provide multi-media digital lab and design spaces to be used by researchers and students from multiple disciplines pursuing projects related to sustainability, creativity, and communication design. The digital screen and encounter area will serve as an invitational showcase and collaborative meeting space for the work being undertaken by UBCO faculty and students across the campus.

Exterior Enhancement

The digital screen and encounter area will serve as an invitational showcase and collaborative meeting space for the work being undertaken by UBCO faculty and students across the campus.

The CSCD represents an opportunity for federal, provincial, university and other donors to support a new and exciting vision of arts, media, and science collaboration around human-centered community approaches to environmental and cultural sustainability.
